Privacy policy
Derivografías is the companion app of Vivian Galban's art project for the 20th International Architecture Biennial of Buenos Aires, at Rolf Art gallery. It is developed and published by Valentina Koniukhova. This policy describes what data the app uses, and what for.
What the app records
- Your route: GPS coordinates and how long you stay at each stop, only while you are recording a walk. When the walk ends, recording stops. During a walk it may keep recording with the screen off, and says so visibly.
- A name or nickname: free text you type at the start. It may be a pseudonym; it is never verified or linked to your identity.
- Photos of where you placed the pinhole camera, if you choose to take them during the walk, together with the light reading for that stop: the measured value, the proposed exposure time and how long you actually waited.
- Your account: a short text, if you want to tell how your walk went once it ends. It is optional and sent only once.
- Technical data: anonymous usage events (for example, how many walks are started and finished, and how many minutes they lasted) and crash reports, through Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics.
- A notification identifier, only if you accept notifications when your walk ends. It serves a single message: telling you that your derivografía has been developed.
Camera and photo library
The phone camera is used as a light meter to compute the exposure time: that screen captures and stores no image. Photos are taken only when you tap to take them. Permission to add to your photo library is requested only if you choose to save the developed derivografía to your phone.
What it is used for
- Drawing your route and your stops inside the app.
- Projecting the live collective cartography in the gallery during the exhibition.
- Returning your developed paper derivografía to you, once digitised.
- The project's artistic research and its publication as part of the artwork.
- The photos of the camera and your account may become part of the artwork and its documentation, and be exhibited or published as part of it.
What is public and what is not
The live map with names, during the exhibition, is password-restricted to the team and the gallery. Walks from days already past are published in the project's open archive: it includes the route, the stops and their durations, and the nickname you typed. If you would rather not appear, use a pseudonym or write to us and we will remove it.
Where it is stored
In Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore, São Paulo region, Brazil), with restricted access. Google's processing is governed by the Firebase privacy terms. The app asks for no account, email, phone number or contacts, shows no advertising, uses no advertising identifiers, and never sells data.
Retention and deletion
Routes are kept for the duration of the art project and its archive as part of the artwork. You may request deletion at any time by writing to the contact below; since the records are anonymous, please mention the nickname you used and the approximate date of your walk.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
